At the head of the glacial basin of Lys, at a height of 3637 m on the Garstlet glacier, the Capanna Gnifetti mountain hut, Capanna Gnifetti in Italian, sleeps 177 in rooms of 4/6 double bunks and a large room sleeping 12. It has bathrooms and communal washrooms, showers at a cost, electric lighting, SOS radio rescue and a winter shelter open during the period of closure.

Capanna Gnifetti is the base for all excursions on Mont Rosa. It is the historical stopover for more challenging climbs, for the ascent to Capanna Margherita and high altitude cross-overs.

Since spring 2009 Rifugi Monterosa MBG srl runs five CAI refuges dislocated on the southern face of Monte Rosa. The commitment is huge and the company is focused on improving its services in order to ensure a warm welcoming and the proper respect for the environment.
