An intense four-day program, designed to explore the Monte Rosa massif by climbing 5 of its 4000m peaks to learn the “cramponnage” technique, self-rescue maneuvers and how to safely walk in a roped party on a glacier without losing sight of important objectives.

Program

First day

Meeting with your guide at the ticket office at the Staffal ski lift at 2.30 pm, equipment checks and a ski lift ride to the pass Colle della Bettaforca (2770 m) An approximate 3 and a half-hour hike to Refuge Quintino Sella (3585 m). Dinner and overnight.

Second day

Departure at dawn to reach Castore Peak (4226 m) in about 3 hours and a half. A brief stop for photos at the summit and return to Refuge Quintino Sella for lunch. In the afternoon we will learn how to haul up a partner who has fallen into a crevasse, we will learn more about rope tying methods, and how to walk in a roped party on a snowy ridge and on a glacier. Dinner and overnight at the Refuge Quintino Sella.

Third day

We will be traversing the Naso del Lyskamm (4100 m) and passing around the foot of the south face of Lyskamm. By following in the footsteps of the mythical route of the Mezzalama Trophy, we will climb the Naso del Lyskamm and reach the statue Cristo delle Vette, perched on top of the Balmenhorn (4167 m). In the afternoon we will go up to Refuge Capanna Regina Margherita (4554 m), the highest in Europe. Dinner and overnight

Fourth day

After having admired one of the most evocative sunrises in the world, we will leave Refuge Capanna Margherita to ascend the nearby Zumstein Peak (4561 m). On the route down, after crossing the Colle del Lys and we will climb Pyramid Vincent (4215 m) and then return to Refuge Mantova for lunch. Descent to Indren to take the lifts to Staffal. Expected arrival around 4.30pm.

The price includes

a guide for the 4-day tour, technical equipment (harness, crampons), ski lift rides, half board for the guide and clients in the refuge

Needed equipment

- 5 layers of clothing for the upper body (thermal shirt, light fleece, heavy fleece, down jacket, anorak.)
- two set of gloves (soft and ski ones)
- sunglasses (with 3 or 4 protection
- heavy trousers (windproof)
- underpants
- gaiters
- rigid, ankle height, waterproof boots.
- two pair of ski socks
- headlamp
- hat that covers your ears
- bag sheet for the hut
- sun screen & lip balm
- poles
- ice axe
- helmet
- 1lt water bottle/thermos
- climbing harness & crampons
- 30/40 litre backpack, a compact size to not impede movement ,
- ID document/passport
- 2 carabiners with ferrule
- 1 x climbing sling loop 120 cm

Please note, a sleeping bag liner is mandatory in all mountain huts.

Please note

Difficulty: from F to PD – hike on ice with parts of the trail passing over the ridge. You need to be physically fit.
