This is a rather demanding climb, because of the existing rocky pathways and numerous exposed sections of rock and snow. It boasts a magnificent environment with views from Mont Blanc to Cervinia, the whole Swiss Alpine mountain range and all the main peaks of Mont Rosa until Macugnaga in the valley below. The ascent to Punta Dofour is very popular being the second highest peak in the Alps Bear in mind that climbing Dufour Peak requires a good level of fitness and definitely no fear of heights for both routes starting from either nearby Capanna Margherita (recommended) or Refuge Gnifetti. The advantage of sleeping over at Capanna Margherita is a downhill start, but do not underestimate an evening at 4554 mt above sea level!
