The village of Rassa situated at the confluence of the rivers Eaves and Rowan is a tangle of alleys, bridges and narrow streets overlooking the old houses made of wood and stone, workshops, stables, church and chapels. These are the remains of a pastoralist community still active today. It is dominated by Parete Calva where refuge was found among Dolcino and his followers shortly before being exterminated.
The territory of Rassa is fragmented into seven fractions, formerly divided into two opposing teams: the Tremendi and the Braghetti, whose stories and warnings of challenges still animate the stories of the town.
Not to be missed is a visit to the Sawmill in Brasei, a fine example of hydraulic sawmill renovated to be used again today. It shows how in pre-industrial age, the force of the water was used to produce wooden planks.
Here from the town of Rassa, the hikes into the Gronda valleys, also known as the Valley of the Baraghetti or mountaineers who used to wear hiking gaiters over their pants, and also the hiking trail to Sorba, a place of green pastures, white houses and beautiful fir trees.
