Margherita Hut from its 4554 m overlooks Alagna and Valsesia since 1893.
It’s a modern hut, a scientific laboratory, a stop for the most difficult climbs on Monte Rosa and the highest building in Europe. Reachable in about 7 hours by walk from Indren (3275 m) or in two days with a stop in Gnifetti Hut to enable a good acclimatization.
The tour to the Margherita Hut is an exciting experience that however requests, seeing that it’s an high mountain location, attention, practice and training. Being accompanied by a Mountain Guide UIAGM is a choice to consider.
The Margherita Hut, huge and comfortable, can host up to 70 people in big or small dormitorys with toilettes in common; in the restaurant room, with a spectacular view on all sides, there is internet access and a library. The cooking, because of the difficulty of digestion of the most of the people that stay in high altitude, is particulary careful and studied. The rooms are heated, but the outside temperature, even in summer time, can go over
-25 degrees under zero. Is necessary therefore have an appropriate clothing, sunglasses and adaptability in sharing spaces.
The Hut, since 2002 had gotten the certification UNI EN ISO 14001 for guarantee the less impact on the environment.
The Hut doesn’t use single-use things and dispose off rubbish and sewage sludge downstream
