Ski mountaineering along the Mezzalama Route is an extraordinary experience around the Monte Rosa massif, perfect for exploring this magnificent area. During the tour, we will scale some of the most spectacular peaks of the Western Alps, including the Breithorn, Nordend, Punta Gnifetti, and Castore.

This is an adventure not to be missed for mountain enthusiasts looking to discover the beauty of Monte Rosa and experience unforgettable emotions. With breathtaking views, shimmering glaciers, and welcoming refuges, this journey will provide lasting memories and moments of pure alpine magic.

Program

Day 1: MonterosaSki and Capanna Gnifetti

Morning: We will begin our adventure in the MonterosaSki area, dedicating some time to off-piste runs to warm up our muscles and clear our minds. Together, we will check our ski mountaineering equipment and safety gear, ensuring everything is ready for our tour. Afternoon: We will ascend for about an hour and a half with our skins to reach Capanna Gnifetti (3,647 m), where we will spend our first night in the refuge, enjoying a spectacular view of the Po Valley. Overnight: Capanna Gnifetti.

Day 2: Rifugio Margherita and Monterosa Hutte

Early Morning: We will begin our ascent towards the Colle del Lys (4,248 m), a magical spot in the Monte Rosa massif, surrounded by stunning glaciers and the most beautiful peaks of the Alps. We will continue to Capanna Margherita and, after a moment of contemplation, we will descend towards Monterosa Hutte. Overnight: Monterosa Hutte.

Day 3: Monterosa Hutte and Nordend

Morning: We will tackle a long ascent from 2,882 to 4,660 meters to reach Silber Sattel, the pass between Dufour and Nordend, and then continue along the ridge to Nordend. Afternoon: We will return with a magnificent descent back to the refuge. Overnight: Rifugio Monterosa Hutte.

Day 4: Monterosa Hutte, Zermatt, Klein Matterhorn, and Breithorn

Morning: We will ski down to Zermatt (1,620 m) and then take the cable car to Klein Matterhorn (3,883 m). From there, we will head towards the western Breithorn and then descend to the Teodulo refuge, where we will enjoy dinner with a view of the Matterhorn. Overnight: Rifugio Teodulo.

Day 5: Punta Castore and Descent to Rifugio Quintino Sella

Early Morning: We will set off to reach the summit of Castore (4,225 m), passing through the Breithorn pass and then descending gently to the Verra pass. The ascent of the west face of Castore is challenging but highly rewarding. Afternoon: After crossing the sharp ridge of Castore, we will descend towards Rifugio Quintino Sella (3,585 m). Depending on the weather and snow conditions, we will decide whether to ski along the Lys springs or take the normal access route to the refuge.
